I was initially interested in this film simply for the fact that this was directed and written by Guillermo del Toro. I am a big fan of his movies like Pan’s Labyrinth, The Orphanage (Man that was a dark movie), Mama (Executive Producer). I’m also a fan of all the actors in this movie from Sally Hawkins to Octavia Spencer. All put on a wonderful performance.

For me, this ended differently than how I expected and wanted it to, especially knowing Guillermo’s other films. In the end it is still a beautiful movie that is well captured and one of my favorite movies of 2017. It mixed comedic moments with deep emotional connections to the characters, especially Elisa.

As for gripes, I don’t really have much other than there weren’t any real real twists or surprises in the movie. It plays out like your average princess movie combo from Disney. The Princess falls for the beast.

I would still recommend this movie to anyone. It plays out like a beautiful live action Disney film. It is well written and wonderfully acted. Definitely go see it and lets hear what you think!

Cheers!

-Michael
